A telling video by ex-hostage Nicolas Henin, who details some of his experiences while in captivity. What is striking about this interview is how he describes ISIS fighters as having little to do with local Arab or Muslim culture and more a “the product of our [western] culture, of our world”.
He goes on to say that many of them traveling to Syria did so thinking that they are there to help victims. Upon arriving they quickly find out there is no way back as they are pushed into criminal activity.
“Allah wants to accept your repentance, but those who follow [their] passions want you to digress [into] a great deviation.
And Allah wants to lighten for you [your difficulties]; and mankind was created weak.” ~Qur’an 4: 27-28
