Less Than Ants

“And among His Signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the living creatures that He has scattered through them” Quran 42:29

I chose to post 2 of my latest pictures taken from Dhidhoofinolhu Island in Maldives, the Milkyway Galaxy.

It was not easy fighting against the moon and the sun to capture these shots.  During the time I spent there, I had a very short window of opportunity which required being up for the moonset at 4:30 and shooting until sunrise at 6:05.

Next time you are up for fajr prayer, take the time to gaze at the stars.  As I gazed at the enormity of the universe that we live in, I could not help but be overcome with a sense of smallness.  I can only imagine that from our universe’s perspective, we are next to nothing.  Less than ants.  What an atom is to us in size, we are less than that to the universe.  Nevermind the many universes that may exist along side of ours.  M-theory (string theory) aside, we are even less than nothing from Allah’s perspective.  The differences, divisions, concerns of ours are less than trivial.

I could not help but be overwhelmed with questions.  Questions like, what are we fighting for?  Why must we fight?  Why must we destroy ourselves?  Our environment?  Where is Justice?

“The world is sweet and green (alluring) and verily Allah is going to install you as vicegerent in it in order to see how you act.” Sahih Muslim (The Book of Heart-Melting Traditions.  Book 49, Hadith 12)

I can only imagine that any intelligent beings living on other planets in our galaxy or others are looking at their stars and thinking the same questions.

These questions encompass all mankind, but with me they are more directed at Muslims.  Islam was given to us by the Creator as a Justice movement.  If any group of people on the Earth are to stand for Justice on the earth it should be us in the forefront.

Why must it be this way?

The answer is it doesn’t have to be this way.  Its our choice.

No one knows Allah’s Appointed time for the Earth to end.  However, we know it will come.  The Earth is destined to die naturally along with our star, galaxy and universe.  Earth is our jewel.  Until such a time comes, we must remember that in everything we do.

“We sent aforetime our messengers with Clear Signs and sent down with them the Book and the Balance (of Right and Wrong), that men may stand forth in justice”  Quran 57:25
